Here is the first in a series of videos on ideas for butoh training. My intent is to offer ideas that can open doors and inspire rather than proscribe one best way to do things. Hope you find some of this useful.

Desenterrar pra gravar é sacanagem
Es verdaderamente perturbador
Thank you so much for this content! Can you please spell the last artist you mention (the one who uses decors) tysm 🤍
I think you mean, Sankai Juku, An astounding group. Their founder and choreographer, Ushio Amagatsu, just passed away this past March.
It has my like. It's okay, but I don't know it gives me a disturbing nihilistic feeling. I don't understand the artistic meaning of this. There is something morbid and masochistic that I dislike. There are works by Kobo Abe and especially Mishima that start well and then end in this unpleasant morbidity.
This is an amazing video. Thank you
Nice lecture
This is a very important and precious video. Just validated everything that I felt about Butoh without having any formal training. The whole concept of Butoh somehow goes against the structure of what a formal dance training would entail. Need to feel the universe more. Need to feel the connection that we hold with our surroundings ecology and Butoh is the key to this door :’)
Didn't catch the book titles....
Time, Space, and Knowledge, and Knowledge of Time and Space, by Tarthang Tulku.
Hi Bob, I practiced Butoh for a short while in London with Lorna Marshal, teacher at the City Lit in Covent Garden. I have seen Sankai Juku, Koffi Koko, they all inspired me much with my dancing journey. Thank you, I enjoyed your talk and will share it❤
Who else is here bc of Nymphia?
How did Nymphia Wind lead you here? I'm very curious.
Her runway. Such good art

These videos are so good, thank you for such an introduction to Butoh
Very interesting analysis! I am working with 3 friends on our first Butoh production. I play Didgeridoo, one friend plays a beautiful collection of gongs, one produces liquid light shows and one dances. It’s a fascinating transformation!
Original death rockers
Thank you so much! Btw: the art of no drama- Also available on the wayback!
Thank you sooo much. Btw: that book is expensive, but it’s available on the wayback machine! Please bring this channel back!
Wow, I absolutely love this video! As someone who has studied and practiced Butoh for a while now, it's so refreshing to see such a well-explained and beautifully presented video. The aesthetics of Butoh are truly mesmerizing, and this series is doing a fantastic job of capturing its essence. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of art with us!
These were great! Please bring em back

I agree. It illuminates one of the deep paradoxes of human existence, I love that quote.
CONTAX T2
Tabula Rasa 🫥🧿👹 Powers of ten.
This series has been amazing! Will you be uploading more parts?
I'm thinking about what approach to take for more Butoh training videos. I'm open to suggestions. If there are any topics you'd like to see covered, let the know. Glad you are enjoying it so far.
You mentioned imagery in a previous video: can you go deeper into Butoh-fu? How have you (and others) used it? Perhaps with a possible praxis? Also: Butoh (and adjacent!) books or resources? Thanks Bob!
I found out about butoh today, i want to know more about the exact music played to butoh dances its composition ,atmosphere instruments and how it sets the mood probably in later videos
I have seen many different types of music used in butoh. While butoh music can often be dissonant and atmospheric, I've seen Kazuo Ohno perform to Elvis Presley (Can't Help Falling in Love with You), and I've seen Akira Kansai perform to Atari Teenage Riot and the the entire 2o minute version of Pink Floyd's Echoes. So anything goes. Music is often used as another element of the environment to respond and react to, and to interact with..
Thank you for this information. I had my first foray into Butoh at a dance program this summer. It opened something inside of me. Do you have any recommendations on where I can find companies and schools in the US and abroad? I would like to continue to study Butoh.
I just got out of a butoh workshop. Since the workshop is about practice and technique with a sufficient touch to the concepts, this video helps me a lot to get better understanding.
Glad you found this helpful. Butoh is such a vast subject, you couldn't possibly cover it all in a single workshop. I hope that this series can inspire people to find their own way into the work..
The control over his facial muscles is just 🤌🤌🤌
thankyou
thanks so much for sharing your experiences and feelings about butoh, im from Chile and this kind of videos are very helpful, thanks thanks thanks n.n
butoh dancing has to be some of the weirdest most avant garde dancing i've ever seen. at times even creepy and harrowing as in the case of the silent scream. Yet at the same time it's extremely fascinating! <3
My fellow Butoh friends - any leads on this kind of music here?? I find it highly fascinating and beautiful.
Thank you so much for this transmission of the heart, the very essence of life. Butoh offers the path to total freedom... 🙏 And thank you for your emotion, palpable..
It's so gratifying to me to see that people are getting something meaningful; from this series. Thanks so much for your feedback!
you can feel the influence on Ju-On The Grudge...
Hello, Bob. Do you know of any butoh teachers in the Los Angeles area? I love your butoh videos, by the way. They are extremely useful and well spoken.
